Biography

Yamile “Yaya” McBride | McBride SOMOS

Experiential Artist • Storyteller • Movement Maker

Yamile “Yaya” McBride is an experiential artist who creates living art through movement, storytelling, culture, land, sound, visual expression, and human connection.

She creates experiences that remind us we are alive.

Through McBride SOMOS, Yaya explores the space between arriving and leaving, the dash - where we love, grieve, dance, remember, create, connect, and become. Her work invites communities to experience art with their whole selves and to see public spaces as living places of memory, belonging, and celebration.

Her vision for community art includes living altars, Día de los Muertos-inspired walls, movement, murals, objects, stories, textures, music, and the contributions of the people who call a place home.

For Yaya, art is Lifing on purpose. It is choosing to notice that we are here. It is honoring where we came from while deciding what we will leave behind.

We Are/SOMOS.
We Belong.
We Smart.
We Ready.

And Yaya’s invitation is simple:
Come experience the art.
Come bring your story.
Come leave life a little better than you found it.
