Biography
Latisha Coleman is a 3-dimenional painter as well as full-time graphic designer for the News and Record of Greensboro in Greensboro, NC. She received both a Bachelor of Science in (Graphic Communication Systems), and Bachelor of Arts in (Visual Arts and Design,) from North Carolina A&T State University. She has participated in various local group shows in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, NC.
Her work is often influenced by the African culture, and explores the various relationships between popular culture and fine art. Her collection entitled, "the Queen Series," features 3-dimensional portraits of black women, celebrating their insecurities.
Each piece often consists of constructing a range of mediums, including, plaster of paris, chip board, yarn and techniques such as paper mache'. With these elements she is able to create not only a 3- dimensional presence but individualism, originality, uniqueness and an undeniable unity between each Queen.
It is her aspiration, that her art imports a sense of solitude and celebration for all women of color, the young, and old! Besides, black is very becoming of you!
