Biography
Anne Elizabeth McKinney (née Brostrup) was born in Arlington, Virginia. She received her B.A. in Studio Art and English Literature from Kenyon College in 1977. After working in magazine publishing for many years, she returned to the art studio full-time in 1990 to begin painting and exhibiting watercolors of floral, still-life and landscape subjects.
From 1990 to 1995, she studied classical figure drawing with Jack Henderson at the Art Students League in New York City.
Anne followed her husband to Luxembourg and France in 2000 and studied French at the Sorbonne Université in Paris. While living in Luxembourg City, she trained in and began teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) while continuing to paint and exhibit figurative small works in watercolor and acrylic.
In 2007, she moved to North Carolina and began teaching ESL while studying Spanish at Forsyth Technical Community College. Anne is fluent in French, and continues to be greatly influenced by the master works in drawing and color, such as those of Degas and Cezanne, that she was able to study while living in Paris.
Today Anne concentrates on lyrical abstract expressionism in watercolor and mixed media.
