Biography

Artist Bio: Ariadna Sosa’s mixed media art incorporates a variety of art mediums such as ceramics, printmaking, photography, fibers, and three-dimensional work through which she navigates to depict cultural background, as well as story telling. Her representational and non-representational work intends for the viewer to see and understand circumstances from a different perspective, as well as resonance.

Artist Statement: My work explores the concept of cultural identity. My studio practice has been influenced by Mexican culture, to be specific focusing on Oaxaca’s heritage and backgrounds. I use a mix of art mediums for instance ceramics, photography, fibers, three-dimensional work and printmaking to represent personal identity.

After living in Mexico for half my life and having the opportunity to continue my education in the United States, I knew I wanted to make art that represents my heritage as well as visually communicating the uncomfortable issues including gentrification, femicides, and poverty, that society faces in a different country.
